An introduction to university life in its many facets, including but 不 confined to, critical reading skills, deep familiarity with library resources, a broad familiarity with the various departments (academic 和 administrative) of the university, expectations 和 responsibilities of university life, the history of 奥斯汀佩伊州立大学. 

*This course is required of all incoming Honors freshmen

HON 1045 - Introduction to Interdisciplinary Thinking

3学时

An interdisciplinary examination of an idea, designed to provide students with a broad 看一个问题. Exploration of the idea 和 reality of the other in various cultures 和 modes of 话语.  例子包括 addressing differences through science fiction, or confronting racism through media reports 和/or film, music, 和 art.  学生会考虑 diversity issues 和 respond to them rationally rather than emotionally. 亲爱的2330 is a general education core class in the Humanities area.

荣誉学生 should register for HON 2220 和 should 注册engl2330.

HON 2110 -批判性思维

This course presents the fundamentals of argumentation 和 the principles of critical thinking such as underst和ing how to frame questions, discuss various branches of philosophical inquiry, exploration of logical fallacies, deductive 和 inductive arguments, 和 the application of such arguments in a paper. 

HON 2510 -工作的世界

3学时 

This course explores the history, contemporary meanings 和 transformations of work 和 employment through an interdisciplinary social science lens.  依靠人种学 accounts of work, students will examine working conditions 和 jobs in the United Stated 和 beyond, with a critical focus on how globalization shapes labor markets. Major course themes include cultural meanings of work, theories of work 和 employment 和 how social attributes like race, class 和 gender shape our experience of work 和机会.  Comprehension of current trends, pathways to employment 和 the organization of work empowers students to better navigate jobs markets 和 the role 在他们自己的生活中工作.

HON 2520 - Community Communication 和 Servant leadership

An Honors Service Learning Course meant to enhance public speaking skills while exploring leadership internships interests for community service. 学生将公开申请 speaking principles 和 techniques with emphasis on informative 和 persuasive speeches. The class combines the speech communication process with use of outlining, research, 视觉辅助和受众分析. 

HON 300A -跨学科研究II

Continuation of interdisciplinary study at an intermediate level. 话题会有所不同, 和 may include topics such as The Invisible String of Romanticism or Hebrew in the 具有历史意义的时代.  The number of credit hours will be determined by the instructor but will be no less than one 和 no more than four.

HON 4400 -跨学科研究III

Continuation of applying the principles of interdisciplinary study to a broad range 在高级水平的主题. 话题会有所不同, 和 may include topics such as The History of Travel or Biblical Archeology.  The number of credit hours will be determined by the instructor but will be no less than one 和 no more than four.

HON 4050 -荣誉论文

3学时 

This course is for seniors in the 荣誉项目.  荣誉学生必须完成一份 thesis, a project, or an artistic presentation as the final element in graduating with the Distinguished Honors Scholar Award (other levels of 荣誉项目 completion are allowed, but are 不 required to complete a thesis).  论文,项目,或 presentation will be made available to the public for a defense where appropriate.

HON 4510 -荣誉实习

可变1-12学时 

Students will complete an internship either on or off campus.
